Day 17. Sahagun

There area many ways to do the Camino. Today I did it by taxi. Yes, the pain in my leg is there so I shared a taxi to Sahagun, a city of 175,000, so I could go to a pharmacy. The ride was 23 kilometres and it cost 24 euros split 3 ways. How much did the taxi cost me? Yes, it is Math again!

It was so nice sitting outside in the sun and watching pilgrims walk into the city. Remember the family traveling on donkeys (day 12 & 13), today I met a family from Germany pulling a cart with two children. Then there was Maria with her dog Niko. We have spent a few nights with them. Before you ask, no, Niko doesn't have a pilgrim's passport and he doesn't get a compostella (certificate) when he gets to Santiago. Yes, we think he should definitely get one too!!

Another way to do the Camino is by bike. We see lots of bikers, many zooming by us. They have to use a pilgrim's passport also to stay at albergues or get a pilgrim's meal. To qualify for a compostella a walker has to do the last 100 kilometres from Saria into Santiago without other transportation. A biker has to do the last 200 kilometres into Santiago to get a compostella. It doesn't matter if you have done 500km before that if you don't complete the last 100/200 km you don't earn a compostella. So even though I may use a bus or taxi during these sections, I can still earn a compostella.

It's disappointing not to be walking but this is a beautiful city. There are magnificent monuments that I was able to see on a short walk around the historical part of the city. Take a look.
