There are ups and downs when you are walking the Camino. Today we had to face a literal "up" which was the climb out of Castrojeriz. However with many challenges the reward was worth the climb. A beautiful view of the valley and of the village we just left was quite the sight. Another day in the meseta.
Entering the town of Fromista, we walked along the canal system which used to provide transportation but is now used to irrigate crops. There was a quiet rest place with signs explaining this unique system. All of a sudden a very large group of students visiting from Leon were being led by their teachers to the canals. Lots of "hellos" were shouted and other English phrases that they were practicing. They were interested I was from Canada and i was a teacher.
Later I was at San Martin Church and the same group was there. A girl asked if I was the teacher from Canada ( I look a little different without my visor and backpack). She went to get her friends so we could visit. Paula, David and Evelyn are traveling to Alberta with a school group in September so they wanted to practice English and ask questions. Soon their real teacher signalled it was time to go but I was able to snap a picture. These fourteen year olds will love Canada and Canada will love them.
