Leaving Carrion we were told that the next 17 km stretch was isolated and had no towns or services on the way but there would be rest areas. So we made sure we packed enough food and water for the day. The walk was flat, very flat and we saw a lot of fields.
After the first rest stop I said it would be very nice if an industrious Spainard would have a coffee stop on the way. "Ask and the Camino provides" is what everyone says. So,a few kilometres along and we came upon an outdoor "cafe" complete with tables, chairs, food, coffee and a lovely couple serving pilgrims. The man was even barbecuing sausages!!! He scolded me for putting "that chemical mustard" on my sausage and tomato boccadillo but I just said "lo siento" and took a big bite.
It was a good thing this was a shorter day because I've been having pain in my left shin. It is worse in the afternoon so I came into our stop for the night hobbling. Calzadilla is a very small farm town and I had to smile when I passed a John Deere tractor. As I said, the "meseta" is very much like Saskatchewan!
Better go and put ice on my leg!
Buen Camino!
