Ole Madrid!

I arrived in Madrid at 4 PM and headed to meet my friend at the hotel downtown. Madrid is a beautiful city with many historical buildings, narrow streets, and spacious plazas. Exploring Madrid was fun but also dangerous because cars, buses, and motorcycles zoomed by us. Miss Town can tell you about the many times she had to pull me away from a speeding car when we traveled in Australia!

We ate dinner at the Plaza Mayor, just past the archway in the picture. In Spain, dinner is at 9 PM or later, but because of our big travel day we ate earlier. As we finished at 8 PM, the plaza was just beginning to fill with people. But for us it was time for bed and much needed sleep.

Train travel is very common in Europe so today we go to Pamplona by train. The Atocha train station is an impressive building with stores, restaurants and an atrium full of trees, plants and flowers. The trains are very smooth and quiet. They must be powered by electricity. The scenery is rolling hills with some farmland. There are very old buildings scattered along the country side and even castles on hill tops. I'm going to listen to music and eat the sandwich I bought at the railway station and enjoy the Spanish countryside. If you forgot to get lunch, don't worry. You can get a drink, sandwich and chips for 7,50 Euros in the food car. It's just the next car.

Tomorrow we start the Camino!!!

Buen Camino

Mrs. Town
